Last night I got to sneak along with Carrie and her "legitimate reasons for being there" to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater to see Troillus and Cressida. The production was pretty honking awesome, although we both agree the actual play itself is a little odd and tossed together. Which isn't to say it's bad- I was laughing often and deeply a lot in the first half. The play itself just screams "I wanted to write about the Illiad but they made me tack on a love story, which I kind of stole from Othello, even though Beck's not sure which was written first. But look! Swords! Swoosh! Clang!" Actually yeah- that's the whole play. Oh lack of coffee, you bring me strange subconscious clarity!
But yeah- if you have 40 bucks to blow since you can't get in for free with your awesome writerly friends, I'd recommend it quite a bit. Isn't a bad seat in the house and it's a looker.
In other news, I have a *huge* interview today. It's is easily 15 boons wide and 30 high, so great is its size. If anyone who has a couple fingers to spare could cross them for me I'd be much obliged.
Nevermind- they called to reschedule for Thursday. Oh well- more time to get ready.

That little star is Woodstock, IL. Woodstock, IL is ASS FAR. It is far enough away to be Armpit, IL. I take 90 to rt. 47 which is one of those middle of nowhere fuax hiways. My friend David and I have been playing in the pit for a show out there since two weekends ago. It is officially The Show That Wasn't Worth It.
Incident 1:
Two Fridays ago I was driving myself up there in my rollerskate of a car. It was really windy and snowing and I spun out while goint 10 mph getting off the off ramp. Nothing gets you quite in the mood for playing for a musical like facing traffic for a little bit. Thankfully there wasn't an accident, it was just scary. I ended up spending the night in a hotel out there.
Incident 2:
Fast forward a week and it's now ass foggy. The only thing I could see at times on 47 were the reflectors in the middle of the road. It cleared up by the time the show was over so not a huge deal.
Incident 3:
Carpooling with David this past Saturday. We're talking about how great the weather is and me not running late and basking in the Great of it all. Two minutes later an Invisible Pothole of Doom takes out his front tire as we're pulling into a Wendy's for dinner. He had a spare and ably changed it while I stood there being not-at-all helpful. Then after the show we had an adventure taking what's basically Milwaukee Ave. all the back to Wheeling.
The show itself? Actually pretty good. The actors do a good job with some tricky material. But it's in the middle of nowhere. noTHEREwhere. See?
One weekend left...

Somehow I've been insanely busy this last week. The last musical I was playing pit for wrapped Sunday, and was fun. There were four shows over the weekend (two on Saturday), though, so come Monday I was exhausted and lamely bowed out of going to Hairy Nipples. I've been working on two sample pages for a potentially paying comic gig, scanning course packets for a grad student at Northwestern, and I have a meeting with a couple of writers on Sunday to talk over their book-book idea and see if I'd be a good fit for illustrating it. And now today I get to zip over to the Field museum for that once-a-month, three hour "hey kids! come draw with me!" thing. And anyone who knows me knows my love of dealing with children. I'm beat.
In other news, Amy showed up a day early for her Thanksgiving break at my doorstep yesterday morning. It had been a little over a month since I'd seen her last and it was really great having a lazy day with her on the couch... heh until she passed out for a nap after her long drive. Worked out though since I still had drawing to do.

It has been literally 50 years since I've posted. Go ahead- check. I'll wait.
Things that have been happening:
- I've been dating this amazing girl named Amy for a month and a half.
- I am broke and checks I am depending on have all decided to not be handed to me, or to not arrive, which has left me in a frothy panicked state for a good deal of the last 2-3 weeks.
- I'm drawing at the Field again, although I'm unsure if the second scientist I do drawings for will need me this year.
- I went camping (in an honest-to-god mother-fucking tent) yesterday-today. Burgers and over-friendly racoons featured. Relaxing and smelly.
- I'm swimming with ideas for books lately, with Grant's statement of "you don't need this guy" ringing in my ears.
- Having the sex and the sex is the awesome.
Had to miss the latest comics meeting due to a wake, though it seems like it was awesome so I'm really looking forward to the next one. I think I'm missing Wizard World this year- the combo of having shows to play and stupid concerts are going to gnaw away at it, and I'd rather not buzz by. And now- drawing before bed.

So last night at about midnight I took the bun to the emergency vet, as he'd been acting weird all evening and hadn't eaten since this morning. Now rabbits are weird- they don't make little noises to cue you in to when they're hurting, and them not eating? Really really really bad sign. Their guts need to be working on food at all times, basically (little SUVs of the animal world). So I argue with myself if I'm over-reacting or not, and at midnight was at the vet. He's basically dehydrated, or... something. But the food wasn't moving and it's good I brought him in. The joys of syringe feeding now ensue, with a couple of meds to boot.
Now this would be fine, and I'd be able to tell how he was doing since I'll be home with him all day........ aside from the fact that the roof's getting worked on today, and Ernie, who's already the Most Paranoid Rabbit Ever, is freaking out over the random WHAMs and BANGs coming from above (I kind of am, too). So yeah. Nothing says "sanity" like having your beloved furry creature sick, 4 hours of sleep and roofwork.
Not out of the woods yet with the little guy, so any crossed fingers and thoughts would be very appreciated (c'mon- he's reeeeally cute. You can't help it).

So I only have 2 happy pain pills left in my presription, and my mouth is still with the hurting, and just started bleeding a tiny bit in the last hour or so. I hope the fact that I decided to be a little more adventurous chewing-wise the last day or so hasn't fucked something up. Tuesday's my follow-up appointment, which I dearly hope was somehow magically included in my bill last week. I also hope during it he says something like, "yep everything looks great- no more ridiculously expensive and painful procedures for you!" That would be awesome.
Spent this past week doped up and vaguely in denial about my current financial situation and a little miffed about other things. I mean, nothing will put you in a great mood like somewhat major dental surgery on your birthday. But Maureen is in town and it's been great hanging out with her- tomorrow is Day of Fun tooling around the city, so I'm excited.
I want a steak. And a cute girl who wants to make out with me. Not necessarily in that order.

... and feeling pretty good. A bit sore, but not as horrible as I thought I'd feel (though I'll be asleep by 9 tonight no problem). Cost a good bit more than I was ked to believe it would, but it's over and done with and now I don't have to go back in the fall.
And now, pudding.

Alright, because my last two posts were kinda bitchy/whiny, I'm trying to make amends with a bonifide real update of a post.
So Issue 1 of Sanctuary's like an inch from being in the can (just need to tweak some dialog and such), and I'm five pages into thumbnailing the next issue. And I say issue, but really I'm thumbing from a screenplay, so in the end this might just be one big husky book. Who knows? I'm playing more with perspective and angled shots and I'm at a point where it's more exciting than frustrating, which might mean I'm actually getting better at it. In any event, it's nice to be working on new material with these characters. Also working on the postcard book and scrambling to figure out what to do about Around the Coyote (thanks a lot Grant for tossing my name out there).
In other news, Maureen's getting into town from Ramallah sometime today, and will be here at least a week (I'm blanking on if it'll be two or not- I hope so since I'll be a drooling mess for a few days of it). Tres excited. I'm also um... going out for a drink with a cute girl tonight ( :D ), so that should be... fun ( :D ).
Actually it's funny- everything's going really really well, but yeah- teeth're being bitchy. It's like I'm hitting my 24 year warranty on them on Monday, so they need to act up. Oh and I just got the estimate for how much it'll cost so... I'm wishing it wasn't a really bad thing to drink a lot while on antibiotics. And at 8:35 in the morning. Meh.

My laptop has refused to start up for the last two days. I have a vague idea what's wrong, but no clue how to fix it. All the files for Sanctuary are trapped inside, and I'm feeling incredibly stressed out about the entire thing. I have a fair amount of confidence everything can be recovered, I just hate being in such a helpless position about it all.
All crossed fingers will be greatly appreciated.

I... am getting... a TAX REFUND. HA!
This was really unexpected, Self-Employment Tax being there and all. But me hacking into my paycheck a little while I was working full time last year paid off. This takes a huge weight off, since I'd already had a funeral for the money I was going to spend, and now that we get to stay together after all, it's all sunshine and unicorns. The best part of all this though means I get to focues on the couple projects on my plate, and hopefully get some badassery going this summer. I'm not even really letting myself think too much about that large format project, mostly so I don't get distracted from what I'm doing now, but moreso that I don't lose momentum on it between now and when I'd be able to begin it.
Comics!awesome night tonight at Clark's on Lincoln- fun times for all.

So been home since Wednesday afternoon. Smooth flight, smooth getting home from Midway. There's something great about driving a long distance knowing you don't have to re-drive it to get back. Crash course in mountain driving went off with white knuckles but no hitches. Took a ton of pictures, did some drawings that I'll scan this week. I was originally going to do a comic but it all seems to be condensing into almost drawn postcards. I'm kind of fine with that.
Comic Night of Awesome's this Tuesday night at Clark's, and I'm looking forward to it- had a really good time last month, PLUS the prospect of sweet potato fries- looks like a good week.
I saw Ice Age 2 on Friday with Carrie- it was a low-key and exceedingly dorky night which made me very happy.
I could go for a steak.
